Simona Premazzi"Simona Premazzi set the music aflame on her debut recording Looking For An Exit. She has sheer talent and also a certain presence that makes her a standout. Premazzi's playing can be forceful, delicate, humorous, or dramatic, and sometimes all within the same composition. A promising and exciting new female pianist - composer. Bravissimo." - Mark F. Turner

"Simona of the more exciting and poignant groups on the current New York scene” - Gary Heimbauer – Jazz Inside magazine

Simona Premazzi grew up in a small village in the north of Italy and began her jazz studies in Milano. She started playing piano at nine and after getting a diploma in classical piano she enrolled in the Jazz School Academy. She became part of the most interesting bands at the academy, including the “Mingus Fingers” septet (playing the music of Charles Mingus) and Enrico Intra`s “Jazz Big Band”, with whom she spent 4 years performing on the great Italian stages. Simona is by turns a lyrical and firey player, blending the beauty of both.

Simona moved to New York in 2004 where she studied with Fred Hersch, Jason Moran, Jean Michel Pilc, Harry Whitaker and began performing regularly in jazz clubs. In 2005 her quartet appeared on the television documentary “Sounds Of Harlem” for CBS. Among the others she played and plays with: Seamus Blake, Wayne Escoffery, Dayna Stephens, J. D. Allen, Logan Richardson, Gaetano Partipilo, Grant Stewart, Phil Stewart, Ari Hoenig, Jaleel Shaw, Jason Brown, Jaimeo Brown, Marco Panascia, Ameen Saleem, Joe Sanders, Quincy Davis, Rodney Green, E.J. Strickland, Jeremy “Bean” Clemons, Joseph Lepore, Jamire Williams, Matt Brewer, Corcoran Holt, Justin Brown, Lawrence Clark, Duane Eubanks, among many others..

Simona will be joined by fellow New Yorkers Rodney Green on drums, and Yasushi Nakamura on bass. Rodney has gigged with Terence Blanchard, Carmen Lundy, Stephon Harris, Charlie Haden, Wynton Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, Lizz Wright, Terell Stafford, Greg Osby. Ben Wolfe, Christian Mc Bride, Joe Henderson, Diana Krall, George Benson, Nicholas Payton, Cyrus Chestnut, Sadao Watanabe, Antonio Hart, Adam Rodgers, Michael Brecker, Kenny Barron, Marc Cary, Abby Lincoln, Betty Carter, Shirley Scott, Benny Wallace, Makoto Ozone, Wycliffe Gordon, Paula West, Bruce Barth, Peter Cincotti, Andy Bey, Tom Harrell, New York Voices, Herbie Hancock, and Dianne Reeves.
